It's a frequent scenario: Job seekers send out numerous resumes only to secure an interview. Conversely, companies grapple with hiring challenges amid this flood of resumes. Spring 2023 statistics showed that more than one-third (37%) of Canadian companies had unfilled positions. The ongoing labor shortage shows no signs of resolution.

 

In my hiring experience, the primary challenge in screening resumes is the sheer volume. It's widely acknowledged that, potentially facing hundreds of candidates for each open position, a recruiter can spend up to 23 hours screening resumes for a single hire. Metaphorically, the recruitment process involves sifting this information through a series of filters: an initial glance, a secondary screening, a social media check, and a communication test.
